Livadhia The main port and ferry port of the island is located at the end of a long natural bay that cuts in to the north and promises good protection against the prevailing north winds, despite harsh gusts. The lighthouse Ak Spathi and the houses of Chora are a good approach, the entrance is free of shoals. Contrary to the depiction in our pilot, the pier is now larger and no longer square in shape, but protrudes into the bay. A long concrete pier has been added to the old, square stub pier, beautifully decorated with vintage-looking lanterns and bright yellow bollards. In any case, it is advisable to look for a place on the pier, as the anchoring ground in the adjoining bay up to the beach sometimes has very poor holding power. We stormed here (at the pier) a NNW 7 with gusts of 8-9, but sometimes more than 50 knots whistled down the mountain, and we were able to observe several ships that, free at anchor, went on a drift. Livadhi is a feel-good corner, you get (at the pier) water and diesel (on request), the water price in 1999 for 400l was almost 10 DM, the diesel with 175 drachma/ltr. 20 drachmas cheaper than in Leros. The pier itself is free. There is a fantastic bakery that is open daily from 0700 until late at night and their shortcrust pastry apple pies are a must try! You can also get all the nutritious things you need in various small supermarkets, fruit, vegetables and fresh meat, as well as frozen fish can be bought in the fruit hall, also, like everything else, directly at the port. A photo developer only needs an hour for the holiday pictures, in the Hotel Asteri on the beach behind the pier a very friendly, open-minded hotelier takes care of Internet access! Plenty of bars and tavernas provide evening entertainment, such as the ´Alter Ego´ or the ´Relaxbar´, but the islanders also meet at the aforementioned bakery to gossip. Apparently, Livadhi doesn´t just appeal to foreign holidaymakers, on Friday the Athenians come in droves with their yachts and then, especially during a storm, things can get chaotic if the anchors don´t hold. %uk%Livadhia The main- and ferry-harbour of the island lies at the end of a long towards north cutting naturalbay, where you will find good shelter with the prevailing northwinds, although there are violent gusts. In the approach, the lighthouse of Ak Spathi and the white houses of Chora are conspicious, the entrance is free of undephts. Contrary to the description in the pilot, the shown quadratic small jetty has got a long concrete mole, nicely made with oldfashioned laternas and yellowpainted bollards. In any case, it is wise to get a berth at the pier, the holding of the bottom in the anchorage of the beach is bad in places. We had a storm in here, NNW 7 in gust 8-9, but some of the gusts reached more than 50 knots, and we could see several boats dragging. Livadhi is a spot we liked a lot. At the pier, you can get water (in 1999, it was about 1500 drachma per 400lt. ) and the diesel (call for it) was with 175 drachma nearly 20 drachma cheaper than in Leros. The pier was free. There is a fantastic bakery, opened daily from 0700 in the morning until late in the night. It is an absolutely must to try his applepies!!! You can stock up with food in several little supermarkets, fruits, vegetables, fresh meat and frozen fish is sold in the fruit hall, aswell at the waterfront. Your holiday photos will be developed in one hour, in the hotel Asteri, a very friendly hotelier gives you an Internet connection to load email! To relax in the evening, there are numerous tavernas and bars, for example ´Alter Ego´ or ´Relaxbar´, but even the bakery is a famous meeting point for a chat in the evening. Obviously, Livadhi is not only famous for holidaymakers from other nations, but aswell the Athens people come in on friday afternoons numerously with their yachts. If there is storm,
